About Me–Colleen Z!

About Me–Colleen Z!

Hello to you!!

I am a respiratory therapist,  music teacher, wife, mom and “Oma”,   I grew up in the snow belt in Northwest PA.    I worked at a tri-county trauma hospital for 23 years, twenty of which were straight night shift. Then I decided to change careers and become a music teacher. I went to school full time days and worked full time nights on the 12 hour weekend program and graduated with my bachelor of fine arts-music education degree. After graduation, I started teaching middle school music. As I was teaching, I was also working toward a Masters in Music Education (vocal).    Done!     After five years of driving in the snow an hour each way to work, I took a job only a half an hour away. I worked for that district for three years. It couldn’t be more different. One was in the rural countryside and the other was urban inner-city. I learned a lot though. I moved to AZ in 2011 to teach elementary music. That was a big change in both location and grade levels. I had to learn a whole new way of doing things. Luckily I had great advisers.

However, I am more than just my careers. I am and always have been a performer. I love to sing, dance, act and goof around. I did a lot theater back in the Erie area and once we moved to AZ, I got involved in the eclectic theater here. My favorite types of music to perform are a toss up between Jazz and Broadway.   I love doing shows in local theaters as my schedule allows. My next dream is to do a Jazz CD with some talented musicians I have met here. I love to make people feel but especially laugh.

I have been married for almost 38 years and have three wonderful kids. We have one little grandson and two sweet, little twin granddaughters.

That’s my intro—I try everyday to remember that life is too short to waste. I would love to share with you some of my adventures.  Check out my blogs and please let me know what you think!

Musically yours,

Colleen
